Is It a Scam?

Staff at ARC Federal Credit Union is unfortunately seeing an increase in fraud attempts when it comes to our members' accounts. It can be tricky to spot these scams as the callers can catch you off-guard and overwhelm your better judgment.

Be cautious if you encounter any of the following:

  •  Phone numbers that do not match the contact information listed on your financial institution's official website. Scammers often "spoof" phone numbers to appear legitimate.
  • Threatening or aggressive phone calls, emails, or text messages that demand immediate action or create a sense of urgency.
  • Requests for payment by wire transfer, gift cards, cryptocurrency, or other difficult-to-trace methods. Legitimate businesses rarely require these forms of payment.
  • Unexpected calls claiming your computer, online banking account, or device has been compromised.
  • Requests for passwords, security codes, online banking credentials, or remote access to your computer.
  • Pressure to act immediately without verifying the information independently.
  • Offers that seem too good to be true, such as unexpected prizes, refunds, or investment opportunities.

How to Protect Yourself

If you receive a suspicious call, email, or text:

  1. Do not provide personal or financial information.
  2. Hang up and contact your financial institution directly using the phone number listed on its official website or the back of your debit or credit card.
  3. Do not send money through wire transfers, gift cards, or cryptocurrency to someone you do not know.
  4. Report suspicious activity to your financial institution immediately.

Remember: A legitimate financial institution will never pressure you into making immediate payments or sharing sensitive account credentials. When in doubt, verify before you act.
